AI has the requisite capacity to transform numerous aspects of system of criminal justice, starting from the very forecasting policing as well as crime detection to sentencing and parole decisions. However, AI’s use in the criminal justice system raises several concerns both legal and ethical, such as issues of fairness, transparency, privacy, and due process.
Some of the questions that arise from AI’s usage in the criminal justice system include: laying of responsible if an AI system makes a mistake? How do we ensure that AI systems are fair and unbiased? What are the implications for civil liberties and individual privacy? How can we ensure transparency and accountability in AI decision-making?

Artificial Intelligence (AI)[1] refers to the computer systems’ ability or controlled robot or machines for performing of tasks that normal human beings can do, such as learning, problem-solving, decision-making, and language understanding. It can be categorized into two types:
- Weak or Narrow AI: AI that is formulated for specific task performance, such as speech recognition, image recognition, or natural language processing. These systems only followed rules and algorithms in which there are programmed off.
- General or Strong AI: AI that can perform tasks like humans do and is capable of performing tasks, such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. These systems are designed to be learned over time and can learn from experience and improve their performance also.
AI has various applications[2] in a variety of industries, including healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and transportation because it can solve various problems of it. It is also being used in the criminal justice system for forecasting, risk assessment, and sentencing recommendations.
